Tropical Storm Philippe Forms, Two Other Areas Monitored

TS Philippe has formed in the middle of the Atlantic.

The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and expected to get stronger in the next two days.

There are 2 other areas also being monitored by the Yucatan and another by the Cabo Verde Islands.

DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 17.4 North, longitude 43.9 West. Philippe is moving toward the west- northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h). This general motion is expected for the next day or two, with a gradual turn to the northwest by mid-week.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km) from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches).
