Former Gators OL Phil Trautwein hired at Penn State


Former Florida OL Phil Trautwein is heading to Happy Valley.

Penn State announced on Friday that Trautwein has joined James Franklin’s coaching staff. Trautwein played at Florida from 2004-08, helping the Gators to two national championships in the Urban Meyer era (2006, 2008). He was a First-Team All-SEC selection as a senior in 2008.

In 2012 Trautwein He started as a graduate assistant at Boston College, under former UF assistant Steve Addazio, in 2013. After three seasons as a grad assistant, Trautwein took his first on-field position at Davidson as tight ends coach (2016-17) and special teams coordinator (2017). He returned to Addazio’s Boston College staff in 2018 as offensive line coach. He also held the position in 2019.

“We are thrilled to welcome Phil and his family to Penn State,” Franklin said in Penn State’s announcement. “Phil has had success at the highest level as a player, winning two National Championships at Florida and spending four seasons in the NFL. He is a rising star in our profession and has had success in developing tremendous offensive linemen during his time at Boston College with nine players earning All-ACC honors in two seasons. We are excited to bring his knowledge and experiences to Happy Valley.”
