Jags pick up 5th year option on Bortles

The Jacksonville Jaguars have exercised their fifth-year team option on 2014 first-round selection and fourth-year QB Blake Bortles, the club announced today.

“This is a smart business decision for the team for several reasons,” said Jaguars Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tom Coughlin. “It makes sense for us going forward and it’s good for Blake and for the Jaguars.”

The 5th Year Option is a smart business decision for the Jaguars.  The contract is guaranteed for injury only and should the Jags want to move on from Bortles before the start of 2018 then can do so for minimal cost.

The Jaguars will owe Blake Bortles $19.053 million in 2018 if they aren't able to get a long term deal done.
