This years' edition of March Madness has been nothing short of, well, mad. For the first time since 2004, two number one seeds will not participate in the Sweet 16, as Virginia lost in a historic upset to 16 seed UMBC, and Xavier lost to Florida State in the round of 32. Other notable teams like North Carolina, Michigan State, Auburn, Tennessee, Arizona, Cincinatti and Miami are out of the tournament after being upset in the opening weekend of the tournament. The South region has been particularly ravaged, as all of the top four seeds are out of the tournament. Calipari says to ignore the seeds in that region:
Perhaps this is a way to curb the expectations of people that assume that Kentucky will breeze their way into the Final Four following the epic collapse of their region. After all, Calipari will be ripe for criticism should Kentucky not make the Final Four given the way the South region looks now.
